10 Things That Drive Me Absolutely Insane
Hello, everyone!
My name is K.T. Castle, author of The Bridesmaid’s Checklist. Some of you my wonder about the name of the series, but if you knew me a little better you’d know it makes perfect sense. You see, I’m a bit of a perfectionist… or “suffer” from a mild case of OCD. I’m a happy person, I really am, and I’m always open to hearing my friend’s stories, to share great moments and to have new adventures… but there’s some things, some THINGS, that really drive me insane. Here’s my top ten:
  1. Technology failures. Now everything is on the cloud! Like 6 years back they introduced us to Google Drive and told us that we wouldn’t use office no more. That was at work, and it was a hard pill to swallow. I wasn’t as concerned about Word as I was about Excel, but somehow we all survived. Google has advanced so much with their apps and their usage, in fact, I love their ecosystem so much that I own a Chromebook. But what happens when there’s no internet? Or power? I just can’t work. Now we’re smarter at work, and I play safe at home, but there’s always a new technological challenge to conquer.
  2. Disorder in general. Now, you might be thinking, who likes disorder? The thing is, I am very particular about the order that I want. I’ve learned that most people don’t see things the way I do and I’ve grown to accept it. But if I happen to visit your desk and I start moving around stuff to make it look neater and in order, feel free to tell me to stop. You’ve seen Friends? Yeah, I admire Monica.
  3. Practical jokes. I’m not a person who likes attention, specially not attention drawn by being the victim of a practical joke. Of course there’s practical jokes, and there’s PRACTICAL JOKES. It isn’t also that I don’t appreciate them, I try to, but if I’m really honest sometimes I don’t get them. You won’t see me making pranks on people, and hopefully I won’t get any done to me.
  4. Dirty dishes. Who doesn’t want a clean house right? Get home and have a warm meal and a great place to have it. But what happens afterwards? That’s right, doing the dishes. You see, the problem is not only the dirty dishes that I’d like to immediately wash, but there’s also having them place in order so they’re easy to wash (and without food, of course). If they’re too messy I can’t wash them and I have to ask someone for help. When there’s no one to help, you’ll see me getting everything out of the sink, placing it back in order and then washing them. Yeah, that’s about right… and don’t even ask me about how to use the dish rack.
  5. Too much light. I live in the south of Texas, so I’m probably really spoiled because I have sun on a daily basis. So, I have lots of daylight to live with. I have my drawing desk set to the North, to have the most constant light and don’t create shadows… but even then, when I’m reading, working on the computer, or out on the street light can get unbearable. Yes, I do use and abuse of shades. But at night, when you want to sleep and the sun sets late and rises early you have to get creative. Specially when the people you live with want to have every single lamp turned on… there’s no need!
  6. Too hot. With too much sun, heat is expected. Believe me, I’m grateful for the sun, I freaking love it. But when all your plants have dried up, your pet cannot walk on the sidewalk (forcing you to carry her back home) and you suffer of sun burns, you learn to respect the sun. Not only the sun, but the heat. Seconds after you showered and got got ready for the day, or an event, you’ll find yourself sweating and wanting nothing else but to get back in the shower. Can someone turn the heat down, please?
  7. Loud noises. Going to a loud bar isn’t the best place to meet with me. I like going out and hanging out, but I rather do so in a quiet place where we can talk. I love music and listening to it, but I can’t stand to wear a headset for too long (placing things inside my ears isn’t something I look forward to). Specially when I’m working, if someone is listening to music, or watching TV I might ask them to tune it down a little. I don’t mean to ruin anyone’s fun, I just really can’t concentrate around loud noises… but don’t worry, if I’m able to go somewhere else to work, I’ll do that first before bothering anyone.
  8. Sleep deprivation. I’m such a baby, I’m really am. When I was younger I could go to work straight from a party, I could travel and get right to work.. but now, not al all! I need my beauty sleep. I get a bit cranky when I don’t get enough sleep (sorry, not sorry), it is best for the rest of the world that I get enough ZZZ. So lights, noises and heat aren’t welcome in my room at night :)
  9. Being told to do something… twice. So, I have a beautiful notebook, full of color, post-its and notes. In said notebook, I write all my pendings in a very useful list… that’s right, a checklist. If you told me to do something, and it’s something I must do, all you have to do is make sure it’s on my list. You asked me for something? You saw me write it on the list? Believe me, I’m working on it. I don’t need to be reminded every hour by the hour. Tell me what you need and when and how you need it, and I’ll make sure to work on it. If it’s a long term project, friendly reminders and catch ups are welcomed. Just, please, don’t nag me about it.
  10. To get corrected. As I mentioned before, I’m a perfectionist, so getting corrected is one of my least favorite things in the world. I’m much better at it now, I don’t take it as personal as I did when I was younger. And I don’t mind people telling me how to correct things, because God knows I make mistakes (lots of them). But, when correcting someone keep this 3 things in mind: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Always be kind, and don’t correct people in front of an audience.
Now that you have a clearer picture of what could drive me absolutely insane, I’d like to hear about you. What drives you crazy? I hope I find someone who agrees with one or two of mine :)

Thanks, Laurie, for having me over today. It was lot’s of fun to write this post.

The Bridesmaid's Checklist
by K.T. Castle

GENRE:   Contemporary (New Adult) Romance

Kassandra is a single, independent woman who prides herself on her own success. But when she’s asked by her best friend Laura to be the Maid of Honor in her wedding, Kassandra finds herself questioning her lifestyle. Helping Laura plan the wedding is no problem—she’s done it before for all their other friends. The first time was a blast, the second super fun, but doing it without receiving any help from the rest of the girls gets old really fast.

The whole event kicks off with the worst kind of surprise when Kassandra discovers who her friend's fiancĂ© really is, and she's torn between supporting Laura's future happiness and hiding the deeply buried, intimate past she shares with the groom-to-be. Struggling to be the bigger person and do all the hard work on her own, Kassandra finds surprising comfort in Josh, the best man in the wedding and someone she's been avoiding for years. He's charming, thoughtful, handsome, and the worst kind of womanizer, but she just can't seem to stay away. All the while, Kassandra can't help wondering if the wedding could be any more clichĂ©—until she finds unexpected ways to change things up a bit.

“Why are you here, Josh?” I couldn't hold back my curiosity any longer.

“What do you mean?”

He seemed completely caught off guard by my direct question, and I had to remind myself that he couldn’t see inside my head. I really didn’t know what I wanted to hear, but Edward’s words kept coming back to me. Maybe Josh only wanted to sleep with me, nothing else—although it seemed like a lot of trouble for only a night of pleasure.

“Do you really only care about getting into my pants?” I asked, bordering somewhere between a pleading glance and a glare.

Josh seemed to relax a bit before he answered me. “You know I do. But not in the way that moron phrased it. I don’t want you thinking about it like that.”

“You have no idea what I’m thinking,” I quipped.

“I don’t,” Josh said quietly. “I wish I had a clue.” Then he stepped closer to me and tilted his head. “And obviously you don’t know how I feel about you, either.”

“Then explain it to me.” I didn’t try to back away from him this time.

This time he looked at me with different eyes. I didn’t see myself broken in them anymore.
