Ash's Fire by Callie Gold: Interview with Excerpt

Who is the last person you hugged?

A client, after session
today, like all clients. But that’s only because my hubby is not home. The
better question is, who do I hug the most. Husband. Clearly.

What is the story of your first kiss?

I truly cannot remember… Now
you made me upset. See what you’ve done? Proud of yourself?

Do you like kissing in public?

Yes. The bigger the crowd – the Frencher the kiss…

What is the sweetest thing someone has
done for you?

Mmmmmm… There’s a lot… Insisting that I quit my (excellent) job that I hated and take as much time as needed to find my new calling. Then support me for four years until I did.
Hubby, you’re the awesomest!

What kind of music you like?

Jazz. Enough said.

ASH'S FIRE is a romantic mystery novel  for real-life, thinking women. Its
main ingredients are consuming desire, addictive love, grave suspicions, the
testing of friendship and loyalty, and the hardships of modern monogamy. It is
the first novel in a planned trilogy.

In a nutshell: Attorney Jordan Cohen has built a solid life with Sam, her husband,
best friend and brilliant criminal defense attorney. At forty-something, she is
accomplished and beautiful, but despondent. What’s next? Old age, then death?
When Sam invokes their old pact and demands Jordan’s consent to his affair,
Jordan fights her fear and anger.

A chance encounter with the New York-based concert pianist Ari Ash offers Jordan
a venue for retaliation. But enthralled with Ari’s dazzling smile, stirring
music and raven locks, her fling turns into a full-blown affair. And Ari’s
heart-stopping, mind-bending sex games turn her into an addict. When Sam finds
out, the Cohens’ friendship – and partnership – is tested.

When Ari becomes a suspect in a grisly, execution-style murder, Jordan stands by him
and enlists Sam to defend him. But her loyalty to her lover is eroded as she
uncovers one troubling fact after another. Ari has many secrets…

And then her marriage and the Cohen & Cohen law firm are threatened by a
manipulative police detective who threatens Jordan with exposure of her

In the old-meets-new vibrant city of Tel-Aviv, a tormented Jordan races to uncover
the truth, save the two men that she loves, and ultimately, reclaim her own

“Did you tell Sam?” Judith asked.

“Good girl. And it’s a good thing he knew you were seeing
someone,” she said. “How did he take it?”

“Fine, I think,” Jordan said. “No major blowups.”

“Jordan, what are you guys doing? This is seriously
dangerous,” Judith said.

“I know.”

“So are you going to end your fling with Ari?”

“I don’t think it’s a fling, Jude,” Jordan heard herself
say. “And I’m not giving him up.”

“We’re going to have a serious conversation about all of
this, you know,” Judith said, exhaling.

“But for now, tell me, can you work like that?”

“I can work just fine,” Jordan said.

“You’re the worst liar in the world.”

“Sam said the same thing.”

“Was Ari shocked to see you when you walked in the office?”
Judith asked.

Jordan paused. “No, he wasn’t.”

“This is strange, you have to admit.”

“He’s good at hiding his feelings, so what?”

“You’re developing a dangerous habit, Jordan. Keep that in

“It’s just a simple IP case. I can do it in my sleep.”

“We do nothing in our sleep. This is dangerous talk.”

“Okay, okay, you’re right,” Jordan agreed. “You’re warning
me, I appreciate it. I’ll keep it in mind. Promise.”

Judith sighed.

After she put down the phone, Jordan took out her compact and looked at her face. She concentrated on Ari and kept looking. Her face changed, glowed. You look ten years younger. And sexy. And more beautiful than you’ve been in years. Jordan felt the heat rising in her, and she pressed her hand in her lap. Shhhhh, she told her body.
