Hi, I’m Neahle McClelland. I’m 19 years old. I used to live in Beaufort, NC, but now I live on a planet called Ixeos. I’m usually in the tunnels underneath Paris, France. Yes, we have a Paris, France, too… But ours is almost deserted since the big war.
Hey Neahle! Thanks for coming and agreeing to answer some questions. First up. Where do you dream of traveling to and why?
I used to dream of going back home, to my family. Now that I’ve been on Ixeos awhile, though, I mostly dream of going somewhere quiet, where there aren’t any Firsts. I wish we had tunnels to somewhere in Africa!
Tell us about your family.
I have one brother, Clay. He’s here on Ixeos, too – we came together, with our cousin Marty. My mom and dad were great, and we had a close knit family in Beaufort. It’s a small town, where everybody knows everybody.
What was the scariest moment of your life?
I used to say it was when we first came here, and were in the tunnels alone. Now, it’s the time my friend Hannah and I were almost captured by a First, and Hannah had to kill him. I was terrified!
What book are you reading now?
When I’m scared, I read Winnie the Pooh. My mom used to read that to us when we were little. I’ve been reading The Hobbit lately, though.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was really little, I wanted to be a nurse. That was before I saw how much blood can come from a wound. That was thanks to Clay and his skateboard. I was thinking about studying to be a teacher when I went to college. But I never got to college…
What are your favorite TV shows?
We don’t have TV here, but when I was at home I liked cooking shows, like Chopped; and mystery-type shows like NCIS. I watched the Big Bang Theory with Clay and Marty sometimes, and How I Met Your Mother.
What is your favorite meal?
I miss good, salty French fries. The food here’s pretty good, but, of course, we don’t have anything like fast food. Oh, and ice cream. I really miss ice cream!
If you could apologize to someone in your past, who would it be?
I guess it would be my parents. I mean, we didn’t come here on purpose, and we can’t go back, so it’s not like we hurt them intentionally. But it makes me so sad to think about them looking for us, knowing we’re dead…
What makes you happy?
Funny, I hadn’t thought about this before really. What used to make me happy, back home, was hanging out with friends, going to the beach, goofing off. Now, I’d say that accomplishing my missions, getting back safely, seeing my sort-of boyfriend Gilles, and knowing my brother and Marty are okay are all the best things ever.
What is the next big thing?
Well, winning back the planet is the ONLY big thing! Until we do that… Well, we’ll be doing basically the same thing we’re doing now: fighting Firsts, organizing the rebels, and trying to stay alive.
With rebel leader Darian free at last, the humans and outsiders on Ixeos must find a way to join forces and defeat the Firsts. The problem? All slaves are tracked with GPS, the Firsts are the only ones with power, and roving gangs hate the rebels just as much as they hate the aliens. As Darian and the outsiders from Earth travel the globe through the mysterious tunnels in Paris, they learn that the Firsts are preparing to launch another wave of biological warfare. With a transporter that will allow the aliens to target any city, anywhere on the planet, the rebels know they must stop them at all costs.
As things get more dangerous on Ixeos, the outsiders find that they're pushed to their limit. Will they fight for freedom, no matter the price?
Born and raised in Florida, Jennings spent her early years reading anything she could get her hands on, when she wasn't spending time in and on the water. She won a prize in the 6th grade for her science fiction stories.
Jennings attended the University of Tampa, graduating with a B.A. in Political Science, and almost enough credits for B.A.s in both English and History. She attended graduate school at the University of West Florida, studying Psychology. She spent time over the years doing various kinds of business writing, editing, and teaching writing, but mostly having and raising her family, homeschooling her children, owning and running a business with her husband, and starting a non-profit.
Thanks to a crazy idea called NaNoWriMo Jennings got back into creative writing in 2011 and hasn't stopped since. She currently lives in North Carolina with her husband, also a business owner and writer, and two children, and travels extensively with her family, and her non-profit in Uganda.
