This is all I have to say: (My inspiration for Zachary Gamble. Joe Manganiello, sigh)
Tell us about your next release.
Book #3 will be about Carson Granger’s estranged brother Mitchell, who is forced to return to his home town to satisfy a meddlesome potential business contact who also wants Mitch as a son-in-law. Mitch bribes midwife Sabrina Decker to pose as his fiancée for the duration of the visit. Only problem is, they’ve got a past… and it doesn’t seem to want to stay there.
And here’s a picture of my inspiration for Mitch:
What does your significant other and family think of your writing career?
My husband is thrilled! (Especially when I get paid.) He has always believed in me. Always, even when I thought I’d have to quit and become a WalMart greeter. And he’s so proud of me. My three daughters, now young adults, love to see Mom’s name on covers, and they repost and retweet and comment etc. on social media. My oldest, who has a degree in English lit., critiques my books ruthlessly, which delights me. The other two don’t read my romances because they’re so creeped out by my words in my characters’ mouths. Which also delights me, because it means my voice is coming through.
How do you develop your plots and your characters? Do you use any set formula?
I have a frightening array of craft books and plotting strategies. I use bits and pieces of them all, at various times during the construction of the story. White boards. Recipe cards. Highlighters. Post-its. My office looks like the home of a hoarder with attention deficit disorder.
But now I’ve discovered Scrivener and I’m hopeful that it will change my life!
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Great question! I wanted to be: a professional figure skater, an artist, a long-haul trucker, a hamster-breeder, a chiropractor, a psychologist…
Of course, I can’t really skate, or paint, and the biggest challenge of hamster breeding is stopping them from breeding. Trucking and chiropractor-ing, don’t ask me what was going on there. And psychology? Still fascinates me. But I would make a terrible therapist. “Pull your head out!” probably isn’t the most compassionate advice.
But I can tinker however I want with my characters’ heads!
Again with the awesome question! I’ve been recently traumatized by Downton Abbey. We will not speak of it. Last night was Walking Dead. Who knew I could get so rabid about zombies? (Ha, get it, rabid? Biters? No? Oh well.) Tonight is the second part of Castle (love Nathan Fillion!!) AND The Following, so don’t call, okay? I can’t wait for more: Game of Thrones, Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad, Homeland… hm, I know there’s more.
I love to laugh at Modern Family, Raising Hope, 30 Rock, Parks and Rec
What I wish there was more of: Rome. ER. Firefly! (Nathan!!)
Isn’t it amazing that I get any writing done?
Do you play any sports?
Haha. I tend to think of rules as “guidelines” which doesn’t make me the best team player. Plus there’s the whole I-sit-at-my-computer-all-day-for-a-living body. So I do yoga. Bikram, when I’m ready for heat and the vast laundry it produces. Otherwise Hatha, because my hubby will join me for it.
Do you have a milestone birthday coming up? If so, how are you approaching it?
Yes. 50. Making the usual plans: lose weight, get crazy fit, erase the wrinkles, become rich and famous. It’s not until November, so I figure I’m good to eat pie and lie around for several more months, by which time it’ll be too late and the pressure will be off and we can just celebrate!

The last place city girl Desiree Burke expected to find herself was living at and working on a ranch, much less butting heads with the ranch’s sexy cowboy owner, Zach Gamble. But that’s exactly where she ends up after an incident at work leads her to her best friend Rory’s doorstep. Desiree is a gifted physical therapist, and Rory knows exactly where her brand of tough love is needed the most.
Zach’s been through hell and back. A devastating car crash left his brother gone, his father paralyzed, and him with mental scars a mile wide. His survivor guilt alone makes him sure he doesn’t deserve to find love. But as Des works her way into his ranch, his family, and his life, suddenly the last person who belonged there is the only one he believes belongs…with him.
