Where do you research for your books?
I LOVE to research, mostly because it feeds my habit for crime television and documentaries! My name’s Cate Beauman and I’m definitely a Crime TV addict. People as a whole fascinate me. Throw in a sociopath or two that do really bad things and you have me hooked! I always want to know ‘why’. Why does the criminal element do what they do? What was that moment in their lives that sent them down a path of no return?
I also read books, scour the internet, watch documentaries on places, and use Google Images and Youtube like nobodies business. I’m a visual girl. I can’t describe something unless I can look at a picture first. That’s a pretty darn important part of writing!
Does your significant other read your stuff?
I’m a very lucky lady! Not only is my husband a cutie, but he’s definitely my number one fan. He has read my stuff—several times! I think he might know my stories as well as I do. He’s a great critiquer, business manager, and PR master (when he’s not teaching Biological Sciences to high schoolers).
Do you listen to music while you write?
Does a bear poo in the woods?! Music is a HUGE part of my writing process. I typically listen to Pandora or Youtube while I create my stories and compile a collection of songs that I feel represent my characters or the situations they face as the novel unfolds. It’s a rare occasion that my creativity demands silence (And that’s a good thing. I’m a mother of two boys. Quiet doesn’t happen in my house.).
My soundtrack, of sorts, for Falling for Sarah:
One Moment More by Mindy Smith
Just So You Know by Jesse McCartney
Kiss Me Slowly by Parachute
Falling In by Lifehouse
Into Your Arms by The Maine
With You, Tonight by Matt Wertz
Edge of Desire by John Mayer
Wild Horses by The Sundays
Breathe by Taylor Swift and Colbie Caillat
Far Away by Nickelback
What would you consider to be the best book you’ve ever read?
I LOVE anything by Nora Roberts! She’s my favorite all-time author but my favorite book on the planet is Oh, The Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss. Everything you’ll ever need to know about real life is covered in the rhyming words of The Great Doctor. That’s my go-to book when I’m feeling bummed out or unsure. I always have a little pep in my step after I peruse the brightly illustrated pages.
Tell us about the best fan letter you’ve ever received.
The best fan letter I ever received came via a message from my facebook fan page. It was short and SWEET. My fabulous fan shared with me that she was an avid reader that loved romantic suspense. And then… Here’s the best part… She said that my books are great and Nora Roberts and I are her favorite authors! That was the most insanely awesome compliment I have ever been given! Yeah, I’ve read that e-mail more than once!
We first meet Sarah Johnson and Ethan Cooke in the first novel in The Bodyguards of L.A. County, Morgan’s Hunter and see them again in Hailey’s Truth (Book #3). But of course, readers really get to know them when their own story unfolds in Falling for Sarah.
We’ll start with Ethan. Ethan’s sexy as hell. He’s the kind of guy you might see walking down the street and whisper daaaaaamn to your friend. When he walks past, you definitely turn to ogle his fine ass! Ethan’s an intense, muscled hottie with a dangerous job and he’s got it BAD for Sarah, except he doesn’t know it at first. They’ve been friends for years, until everything changes with a moonlight kiss.
Sarah Johnson is a beautiful sweetheart who looses her husband to the war in Afghanistan. She’s a devoted mother to her sweet baby girl and photographer to the hottest stars in Hollywood. Sarah has a gentle, kind disposition and relies on the friendship she has always had with Ethan. She’s quite taken aback when she discovers she might feel more for him than she should.
New York or LA? Why?
I currently live in Tennessee with my husband, two boys, and our St. Bernard, Bear. I recently resigned from my day job to concentrate on this thing I refer to as ‘My Dream Come True’ career!
I’m a pretty lucky girl; one day I woke up and my entire life changed. I saw the light, so to speak, and decided I was going to be a writer. Now, two years later, I’m working on the fourth novel in my best selling romantic suspense series, The Bodyguards of L.A. County.
