How did you start your writing career?
It is all because of my fifth grade poetry teacher. He really pushed us to learn to write poetry and I quickly learned that I had a knack for it. My writing evolved from poetry, to short stories, to blogging, and finally to writing full length stories.
I didn't really start writing though until after I graduated college at the age of 29. I sort of sat back, looked at my life, and realized that I wanted a career that would allow me to continue to be a stay at home mom. Writing is that alternative for me. It isn't exactly paying the bills yet, but it is fulfilling for me.
What was your first sale as an author?
My first sale was to my cousin Carol Ann. She purchased an ecopy of my book and later that same day I received a message from her on Facebook. She called to yell at me for ending the book the way I did and demanded I get my butt moving on getting book two released. =) She thinks I definitely "have what it takes" to be a writer.
So far, my book has generally been well received by those who have read it. I just need to get more people reading it now.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A writer. Before I learned to write, I didn't really think there was anything that I wanted to do every day for the rest of my life. Once I started writing, I changed my mind.
I love the experience of getting lost in a story and connecting with the characters in a book. The idea that I am able to give that experience to someone else is very exciting for me!
Are the names of the characters in your novels important? How and why?
YES! Sometimes I literally spend hours deciding what to name a character. The names of my characters are actually clues as to their importance and what their personalities are. Sometimes, you meet a character and they don't seem like they are going to be important, but if you knew the meaning of their name, you would know that they would make an appearance again.
Use no more than two sentences. Why should we read your book?
Tia's Folly (once you get past the first 30 pages) is an adventure in misadventure. Tia is just one of those people in the world, who can't seem to get it right, no matter how hard they try.
Entice us, what future projects are you considering?
Once I am finished writing the third book in my trilogy (The Path to Destiny series), I am planning on writing a book about a woman who loses everything and has to learn to overcome her past, in order to accept her future. Sometimes, things in life can happen that are so bad, a person feels guilty for being happy. This will be one woman’s journey from hell to happiness.
I also am planning a very unique zombie book. I can't say how it will be unique but I promise to wow. I am still at least six months out from starting to write the zombie book though.
Both of these books will be stand alone's and not part of a series.
Have any of your character's been modeled after yourself?
This is a tough one. Personally I think every character (female) that I write about has a little bit of me in her. However, the one character I connected with the best was Najia (Najia's Sacrifice: The Path to Destiny Book Two). She was judged before ever really having a chance to show the world who she was...I feel that way most of the time. So, I think Najia became a favorite because some of her inner demons mirror my own.
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
I write fantasy romance with a twist. There are multiple scenes that are very adult orientated and are not suitable for children. That being said, thank you so much for taking the time to read my book. I love writing and I hope that some of you will enjoy my book enough to follow this story through to the end. The second book in this series was just release and the final book in the trilogy will be released sometime in 2013.
I encourage and love to hear what the readers think. My email address is in the back of every book I write!
