Book Description:

One year ago, two bullets from a .45 caliber pistol ripped away any hopes Dillan had of a future with her fiancĂ©, Jamie. On the anniversary of Jamie’s death, the appearance of his estranged twin brother, Trey, leaves Dillan wondering what other secrets her prefect fiancĂ© was hiding. When Trey learns of his brother’s death, Dillan takes pity on him and gives him a place to stay.

Trey’s erratic behavior and a series of suspicious phone calls lead Dillan to believe that Trey knows more about the circumstances surrounding Jamie’s death than he’s letting on. With all leads exhausted and Jamie’s murderer still on the loose, Trey is Dillan’s last hope for finding the truth.

Sometimes the truth hurts… but in Dillan’s case it could kill her.

Welcome J.A.  Thanks for stopping by here on your tour through cyberspace.  Do you have any special routines or rituals?

On my days off I get up when my husband is leaving for work, lock myself in my home office with a cup of coffee and/or iced green tea and play some good music to fit the mood of the scene I am working on. I will allow social media breaks after I’ve written 1,000 words or in between scenes. I also tend to write out the main objective of a scene on a post it and stick it on my desk next to my laptop while I am working. I generally do the same thing on the days that I work except I have to go in to work in the afternoon.

Have any of your characters been modeled after yourself?

There are definitely some aspects of myself that are reflected in each of my main characters. Dillan and Trey reflect different things I was feeling when I was going through a loss of my own.

In my next book, Possess, the characters really reflect my humor despite the book being more in the line of thriller/suspense. The heroine, Harley, also has some similar bumps and bruises that I have been through, but like me, she refuses to let those things bring her down.

Overall I spend a great deal of time figuring out who my characters are and  what makes them tick, so while there may be some parallels there are many ways that they are very different from me too.

Do you hear from your readers? What kinds of questions do they ask?

I do. A few have told me I made them cry. As terrible as it sounds, that made me smile. Mistaken was something that came from a heavy, emotional part of my life, so the fact that those emotions bled through the story and touched others has been a bit surreal. Several that enjoyed Mistaken, have reached out wanting to know if there will be more to Dillan and Trey’s story or simply telling me I need to “write more-faster!”

Tell us about your family.

Well we don’t have any kids per se, but since I mention the menagerie of “animal children” in my bio I might as well list them off.

We have 2 dogs- Lainey (she’s  my spoiled princess), Chase (he has no concept of personal space- at all!).

3 cats- Jar Jar (He came into the family with my husband), Soco (he’s my big boy), and Olive (She is a stray we took in. Tiniest thing but she is not afraid to teach the dogs a thing or two).

3 snakes- Harley Quinn (Orange/red cornsnake, sweet as can be), Clay (Spotted Python, also a big sweetie), and then there is Dexter (Ball Python and kind of a jerk, only likes my bestie and our roommate, Madi).

1 possum- Yes I said Possum. Her name is MonkeyRat. She is Madi’s and was rescued as a baby. She is actually very sweet and loves to be fed strawberries.

If I came to visit early in the morning would you impress me as being more like a chirpy bird or a grumpy bear?

Complete grumpy bear until I get some caffeine. The side of me that comes out when I am either half asleep or very groggy is something I wish to never release on the world.

J.A Howell is an office drone by day, and a writer by night. Her love of writing took off when she was eleven years old and decided to fill a composition notebook with stories to read to her friends. Many years (and notebooks) later, not much has changed. She still loves writing and sharing her works with others. When she isn’t writing, she can often be found trying her hand at whatever artistic pursuit strikes her fancy. J.A. Howell resides in Apopka, FL with her husband and their menagerie of animal children.
