Welcome Alexandrea! Thanks for coming on my blog and agreeing to answer some questions to help us find out more about you. How did you make the decision to become a writer?
I don’t think I had a choice really. It was something I started to do at the age of eight. Putting words on paper that imparted the emotion I was feeling at the time just seemed like something natural to me. I began with poetry, moved on to short stories, but because of my career demands in nursing did not write my first novel until I was in my thirties.
What inspires you to write?
Anything from a turn of a phrase, to a friend’s complicated life. Stories come from everywhere, but I guess it is the people mostly. Ones that I have met, or know, who have lived through an experience, or made certain decisions that defines who they are. I like to take those individuals and put them to paper. Good or bad, they make for interesting stories.
Do your characters come first or the does the plot come first?’
Characters come as I write them and many times so does the plot. I have an idea for or story or see the end, but never the whole book. Honestly, as I write the story develops.
How did you come up with Diary of a One-Night Stand?
It’s based on the true story of a friend of mine. Many people are turned off by the subject of infidelity and the main character’s (Kara) way of handling the situation, but what happens in the book is a very common scenario in today’s world. I wanted to share a story of a woman attaining a certain age and making some very bad decisions, but in the end she learns that what she had was better than what she ended up with. The grass is always greener concept can be applied to any situation, including marriages. I guess you can equate the story to a female mid-life crisis, where Kara learns to appreciate what she has and grows from her mistakes.
What other books do you have out?
My Nicci Beauvoir series is a romantic suspense tale set in
about one woman’s journey through love, loss, betrayal, with a whole lot of intrigue thrown in. To My Senses, is the first book in the series, followed by Recovery, and then the final book is Sacrifice. I also have a character from the Nicci Beauvoir series branching out into his own adventures in the New Orleans August books, starting with TheSecret Brokers. In addition, I have released a book dear to my heart about wildlife rehabbing and overcoming tragedy in the novel Broken Wings. It is a love story filled with some warm and fuzzy creatures, human and animal, sure to stir the heart. Dallas
What future works are you working on?
My next novel is called Acadian Waltz, a contemporary romance set in the swamps of Cajun country. It is the story of a woman who takes up with the “perfect” man to please her overbearing mother, but discovers the “right” guy is really an old family friend she thought she always despised. There is romance, intrigue and some wonderful characters. My next two books after Acadian Waltz will be paranormal romances. The Satyr’s Curse is due out in early 2013. The Ghosts of Rue Dumaine will be out in Summer 2013.
